The young babe stands in the green Staring at life and limb Tree, river, father, mother The babe stares on
What it must be to be of innocents What it must be to see Everything for the first time Everything so crisp and clear
I know that once I was this child Standing at life's front door Once I stood with eyes wide open But everything is grey
With age comes growth We see more than what is at hand We see the future, past, and present All in a moments stare
The gift of wisdom That of sight Is it gift or chain?? Will we ever know??
For though we see Our hearts are no longer free We never just stand and stare Tree, river, father, mother
The young babe stands in the green |
